Mechanical Engineering leading to the bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is a structured program that prepares students for a broad range of career choices in the field of mechanical engineering.

The Course is intended for students whose career objectives require greater flexibility. Mechanical engineering deals with design and production of tools, machines and all other mechanical equipment to be used in industries.

The Department offers many options extending across many interdisciplinary specialties. Our Department is concerned with all types of machinery in industries and their mechanism and functioning; the design, development, construction, production, installation, operation and maintenance; such as large steam and gas turbines, components of thermal power stations, internal combustion engines, jet engines, machine tools, air conditioning and heating machines, refrigerators etc. Our Department prepares the mechanical engineers who are the driving force behind many of our technologies and industrial processes including innovative products like mobiles, PCs and DVD etc in our modern world.

Our Department offers specializations in areas like thermal engineering, design, and production engineering etc. Our Students when enter the world of industries work mainly in the most reputed manufacturing firms. They are placed in administrative and managerial positions in government departments or public and private sector industries or do research as well as teaching in Research and teaching institutes. They also opt for technical sales / marketing or work as independent consultant’s job.

The B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering is a comprehensive degree program. The goal of the mechanical engineering curriculum is to create a flexible undergraduate educational experience in design, mathematics, modeling, computing, management, engineering science, humanities, social sciences and fine arts. Principal study topics include fluid mechanics, thermodynamics & heat transfer, solid mechanics, materials engineering, manufacturing, energy systems, dynamics & control Computer Aided Design (CAD) and others. This broad and flexible program allows students to customize their programs to meet their objectives and particular career goals. Traditional students can prepare for technological careers in industry, graduate school or management. The more interdisciplinary students can utilize this program as a launching pad for professional careers in business or public service.

Major events & Achievements

The Mechanical department conducts Imeche (society of mechanical engineering), Faculty Development Program (FDP), Key note speeches, Workshops, Industrial visits and value added courses to enhance and spread knowledge obtained through research with other researchers in India and abroad.
The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Mechanical Engineering Association (MEA) is the forum for students to develop their professional skills. Students are also encouraged to take part in awareness campaigns that have social relevance. Our students have participated in various international and national competitions through student clubs and teams and have won many awards prizes.

Industrial Connection

The department has to its credit corporate training programs, industrial consultancy, and funded projects from government bodies. These connections served to benefit students in the form of good placements, well-equipped laboratories and industrial exposure. The participation of industries in curriculum designing has helped the department to keep pace with fast-changing industrial needs. The department also benefits from the visiting professor programs of AICTE through which highly experienced senior executives deliver lectures to staff and students.


Mechanical Engineers have a broad spectrum of opportunities in Industrial giants in the field of Energy, Oil and Gas, Manufacturing, Steel, Automotive, Robotics and Information Technologies. Core industries like Rexroth Bosch group, Saint-Gobain Corporation, Hyundai, Larsen & Toubro, Mahindra, etc. recruits our students. Many IT industries also have CAD/CIM divisions, which increases the job potential of mechanical engineers in IT industries too. Around 70% of the students are placed in reputed industries practicing core and allied engineering, through campus recruitment and the remaining 30% prefer higher studies in India and abroad.
